Does Rivian access my Gear Guard videos? Can Rivian provide a copy of a video from my collision?
Gear Guard videos can only be accessed within the vehicle. Rivian does not access those videos (e.g., during a Service appointment) without explicit customer consent.
Separate from Gear Guard, certain data and video may be captured during a collision and uploaded to Rivian. However, exterior camera video is only set to be captured in significant collisions and is often unavailable as it may not have been sent to Rivian due to poor cellular service, damaged equipment, etc. I.e., we usually do not receive exterior camera video from customer vehicles in the event of a collision. Any video we do have may only be available from certain camera angles (e.g., front-facing).
For this reason, and for timeliness purposes, we encourage all customers to use an external hard drive or USB drive to capture video using Gear Guard directly within their vehicles, including Road Cam and Incident Cam.
