How does weather impact my vehicle?
Your Rivian continuously manages battery temperature so it can perform reliably throughout the year. If you encounter extreme heat or extreme cold, you may notice temporary range changes are shown in your vehicle and in the Rivian app.
When your battery gets cold, you may see some energy become temporarily unavailable—indicated by blue shading on the battery graphic seen in your vehicle and the Rivian app. As the battery warms up, you’ll see the range restored and the battery graphic returns to solid green. You will also be notified when your battery is most susceptible to range impacts ahead of time so you can plan accordingly.
To help maximize your vehicle experience during extreme hot or cold weather:
Keep your vehicle plugged in when possible to allow the battery to maintain an optimal temperature and reduce range loss, especially in very low temperatures.
Set up a Climate Schedule in the Rivian app to warm up or cool down your cabin automatically, especially useful for recurring drives like going to work or school.
Use the Rivian app to manually turn on your climate system to warm up or cool down your cabin before driving.
Enable auto cabin ventilation to automatically blow fresh air into the cabin when it becomes extremely hot and the vehicle is not occupied.Use your vehicle’s Navigation to factor temperature and changes in elevation into range estimates and charging stops. Check the Energy app to monitor your vehicle’s energy usage.
