Federal Incentives
Consumer Clean Vehicle Credits
The United States offers a clean vehicle tax credit for qualifying taxpayers who take delivery of eligible new Rivian vehicles between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024.   
Select new vehicles may earn up to a $3,750 tax credit:
2023-2024 R1T (all configurations)
2023-2024 R1S (all configurations)
2025 R1T Dual Large

To qualify, vehicles must have an MSRP of $80,000 or less. Rivian vehicles delivered after December 31, 2024 are not eligible for this tax credit.

Commercial Clean Vehicle Credits
The United States offers a clean vehicle tax credit of up to $7,500 for eligible businesses and tax-exempt organizations that purchase qualifying electric vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 14,000 pounds or less.  
R1S and R1T meet the necessary qualifications and have a GVWR under 14,000 pounds.

Section 179 Deductions
R1S and R1T both meet the necessary requirements for the Section 179 tax deduction. Taxpayers can claim a deduction of up to $30,500 for the business use of a Rivian vehicle for the tax year in which the vehicle is purchased/placed in service. To qualify, the vehicle must be used for business purposes more than 50% of the time.

California
California, Bay Area Air Quality Management District's Clean Cars for All offers a vehicle buy-back program which may help participants offset the purchase price of a new electric vehicle.
California Bureau of Automotive Repair offers a vehicle retirement incentive for retiring an operational vehicle which may help participants offset the purchase price of a new electric vehicle.

Illinois Environmental Protection Agency offers an electric vehicle rebate. The current rebate cycle is open January 21 through April 30, 2025.

Massachusetts
The Massachusetts Offers Rebates for Electric Vehicles (MOR-EV) provides a state rebate for the purchase of battery electric trucks and SUVs.
The Tuanton Municipal Lighting Plant offers a customer rebate for the purchase of a new or used Electric Vehicle.

Michigan
Cherryland Electric Cooperative offers residential customers a $500 rebate for the purchase of a new or pre-owned EV.

E-ZPass Minnesota offers a one-time electric vehicle incentive.

Mississippi
Mississippi Power offers residential customers rebates for new, leased or preowned BEVs.

New Jersey
New Jersey offers a sales tax reduction for zero-emission vehicles.

Vermont Public Power Supply Authority member customers are eligible for rebates of up to $1,400 on the purchase of a new all-electric vehicle (BEV) or up to $500 on the purchase of a pre-owned electric vehicle.

Virginia
Virginia offers HOV Lane access for Alternative Fuel Vehicle license plates.

Washington
The Washington Department of Revenue offers tax credits for businesses that purchase new commercial vehicles powered by clean alternative fuel.

What charging incentives do I qualify for?

Does my fleet qualify for commercial tax incentives?

Current model year 2023 R1T and R1S vehicles qualify for $3,750 in federal tax incentives, as the batteries are compliant with the critical mineral sourcing requirements passed in the Inflation Reduction Act. Buyers and configurations are subject to the following income and price restrictions.

Please note that this eligibility will be reevaluated for each future version of the R1T and R1S.

These income and price restrictions are as follows: 

Income limits (adjusted gross income): 

$150,000 - all other filers 
$225,000 - Head of Household 
$300,000 - Married, filing jointly 
Vehicle purchase price (before taxes and fees): 
R1T - $80,000 
R1S - $80,000 
Model Year 2023 buyers who meet these MSRP and income restrictions and take delivery on or before April 17, 2023 are likely to still qualify for the $7,500 credit. More information for tax professionals can be found on the IRS website.

Other buyers may have maintained eligibility for the full $7,500 tax credit regardless of MSRP and income restrictions if they signed the “binding order agreement” on or before August 15, 2022.

Will Rivian vehicles qualify for the federal tax rebate after the new battery requirements take effect on April 18, 2023?

We’re simplifying our pricing by moving all customers to today’s pricing, then providing pricing vouchers to our remaining preorder holders to honor their pricing benefits. We’re also launching leasing for preorder holders in eligible locations.*  Who is eligible?  Pre-March 1, 2022 preorder holders can choose between using a preorder price voucher or the preorder lease promotion (if in leasing-eligible location). March 1–May 25, 2022 preorder holders will receive a preorder pricing voucher. How does the voucher work? We’ve calculated the average difference between preorder holder pricing and today’s pricing, and are offering a percentage discount to match those savings when you select a vehicle in R1 Shop.   The voucher is redeemable in R1 Shop, and voucher values are automatically applied when purchasing a vehicle.  How does the leasing promotion work?  Pre-March 1, 2022 preorder holders will see a preorder leasing promotion applied when leasing a vehicle selected through R1 Shop (when in a leasing-eligible location). Do the preorder price vouchers and leasing promotion expire?  Yes, you must take delivery of a Rivian vehicle on or before September 30 to use the voucher or leasing promotion.   Can I apply both the preorder pricing voucher and the leasing promotion to the same vehicle order?  No, you will apply one or the other based on whether you’re purchasing or leasing the vehicle.   If you purchase a vehicle, the voucher will be applied.  If you lease a vehicle, the leasing promotion will be applied. These offers may not be combined with other offers and incentives unless otherwise permitted by Rivian.   *Currently, Rivian offers leasing on select R1T and R1S configurations in the following states:  Alabama  Arizona  California  Colorado  Florida  Georgia  Illinois   Massachusetts  Michigan  Mississippi  Missouri  Montana  Nebraska  New Jersey  New York  Nevada  North Carolina  North Dakota  Ohio  Pennsylvania  South Dakota  Texas  Vermont  Washington  Rivian will expand leasing to additional markets over time.

What is a preorder price voucher?

Demo vehicles are from our expanding sales and service fleet, previously used for demo drives, service loaners or as display vehicles in our spaces. Once rotated out of our demo fleet, they’re made available for sale. Demo vehicles are low mileage, inspected by Rivian-certified technicians, come with factory warranties and may be eligible for tax incentives* — with most delivering in 1-4 weeks. Shop demo vehicles Is this a new Rivian program? Our network of service centers and spaces is growing, along with our extensive demo drive program. That means continuing to rotate demo vehicles in and out, and more opportunities to shop.  What configurations are available? An assortment of R1T and R1S are available and ready to deliver in 1-4 weeks.  Are these vehicles used? The vehicles in this shopping experience are discounted to reflect their mileage and condition, but have never been titled or registered. Some have as few as 100 miles.   Why are these vehicles on a separate shopping site? This shop was originally built for employee purchases. Feedback has been stellar, and with so many team members asking if they could share it with friends and family, we decided to open it to the community. How do I purchase a demo vehicle?  You’ll select a vehicle in the shop, check out and then be contacted by a Rivian Sales Specialist to guide you through the rest of the purchasing process.
