Our purchasing process is designed to be fast, simple and secure. From configuration to purchase, you can complete the transaction from your phone or computer.¹ We also make it easy for you to appraise your trade-in, secure financing and insurance, manage your title and registration, schedule delivery, and more — all online.

Our online shop features a variety of popular R1T configurations that are ready to go. Many of these configurations are ready for delivery in 14 days or less.² Shop access is available to customers within a serviceable distance of a Rivian Service Center.
Demo drives
Get behind the wheel
The best way to experience a Rivian is to get in and drive one yourself. Our demo drives include a vehicle walk-around with a Rivian Specialist and a guided drive on public roads for you and your guests. Drives are offered at most Rivian spaces and service centers — start your booking to see what’s available near you.

Depending on your location, your vehicle will be available for pick up from a service center or will be delivered to your home. Regardless of how you take delivery, a Rivian Specialist will be there to give you a comprehensive walk-through of your new vehicle and help answer all your questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Transfer Title & Complete Registration
This step determines who will be listed on the title and DMV paperwork of your Rivian, including any co-registrants.
Both primary and co-registrants must be present on vehicle delivery day to sign the DMV paperwork. If applying for financing through Rivian Financial Services (RFS) (which happens later in the process), the co-registrant will need to be included in the credit application as a co-applicant.
You’ll need the following items:
A photo of your valid driver’s license (front and back)
A photo of your co-registrant’s driver’s license (if applicable) (front and back)
A photo of your license plate and a copy of the registration card (if transferring license plates in states where applicable)
The US address where your vehicle will be registered
Your preference for front license plate mount installation noted (if applicable in your state)
If registering the vehicle as a business you will be asked for:
Your legal business name
Your business address
Your business license
Your Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)
You may also be asked for additional business documents. These documents may include specific verbiage on the business letterhead and an email from notorize.com for notary verification procedures.
Trade-in a Vehicle
Getting a quote:
If you’re interested in trading-in a vehicle and would like to receive a trade-in offer from Rivian, you’ll need the following trade-in vehicle info:
Trade-in vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) or license plate number
Trade-in vehicle’s trim level
Trade-in vehicle’s transmission type (automatic or manual)
Trade-in vehicle’s current mileage
Note: there is no obligation to take any offer you receive.
Don’t need to trade-in a vehicle? Simply hit the “Skip” button to continue to “Apply for Financing”.
Decided to accept the Rivian trade-in offer? You’ll need to complete the required information and upload a photo of the trade-in vehicle’s title if you currently hold it. You’ll also need to have the physical title with you on your Rivian’s delivery day. If you do not hold the title, you will still need to upload a copy of the vehicle’s registration.
Have a current loan on your trade-in vehicle? You’ll need the lien holder’s name and your account number ready to enter during this step.
Note: Some vehicle trade-in quotes may require a manual review from our remarketing team. If this occurs, you’ll receive a notice on your account page after completing this step and will be sent an update via email after the review is completed to see your trade-in offer.
Apply for Financing During this step, you’ll be able to apply for financing or leasing (where available) through Rivian Financial Services, bring your own vehicle financing, or select cash payment.
Rivian Financial Services (RFS)
The fastest and most convenient financing option is through Rivian Financial Services where you can select the loan term, down payment, and monthly payment that best fits your need.
You are under no obligation to take the finance offer presented.
Here is what you’ll need for the RFS finance application for you and your co-applicant (if applicable):
Make sure that the credit bureau reports for you and your co-applicant (if applicable) are not frozen
You and your co-applicant’s (if applicable) full legal names, phone numbers and email addresses
You and your co-applicant’s (if applicable) Social Security Number
Employment information (including income, employer’s name and phone number, years at job and any additional income information)
Home details (including whether you rent, own or something else; monthly payment; address and time at current residence)
Note: If applying through RFS, your application may need a manual review. If this occurs, you’ll be notified on your account page after submitting your loan application, and you will receive an email with your loan application results.
Third-Party Financing
If you plan to use third-party financing, please follow these steps:
Get approval from the finance provider of your choosing (your transaction’s Purchase Summary or Purchase Agreement can be provided to your lender to assist in securing your approval and loan).
Once approved, confirm the lien holder information including the lender name, your financed amount, and the lender’s method of payment (Check, Wire*, or ACH).
Submit final payment for delivery. Before your vehicle is delivered, you must submit the financed amount and any balance directly to Rivian.
Please upload the corresponding proof of 3rd party financing payment, i.e. photo of the check and tracking number or wire transfer receipt.
Insurance Options
In this step, you’ll have the option to insure your Rivian. Rivian Insurance is designed specifically for your R1 vehicle. You’ll be able to quickly receive a Rivian Insurance quote for your new Rivian, any other vehicles you own, as well as home and umbrella insurance products.
If you are interested in Rivian Insurance, you may start insurance quote process and get Rivian recommended coverages or customize the coverages that you want.
To receive a quote, you’ll need the following:
VINs for any additional vehicles you'd like to include in your plan.
Driver's license information for all drivers in your household.
Information about any additional insurance coverages you currently have and wish to bundle.
Note: your insurance policy must be active on or or before your vehicle's delivery date, and the policy must be valid for 90 days or more past date of delivery.

If you are using your own insurance provider, you will need a photo or PDF copy of your insurance card with your R1 vehicle's VIN added to the policy prior to the day of delivery (can be found on your Rivian Account's Purchase Summary page or provided by your Guide).
Your outside insurance policy must be active on or prior to your scheduled delivery date.
Note: Rivian registers your new vehicle on your behalf. Collecting proof of insurance with your Rivian R1 vehicle’s VIN number and submitting it to the DMV is one step we take to ensure a rapid and smooth registration process.
Uploading Documents
This step will notify you if there are any additional documents needed after completion of the previous steps in the purchase process. If you skipped a document upload opportunity in a prior step, you could always come back to this step to complete any required uploads.
Signing Contracts
You will be prompted to electronically sign your transaction documents including your Purchase Agreement and any state-specific additional documents. We use a service called OneSpan. Any co-registrants / co-applicants on the transaction will receive contracts via e-mail for their required signatures.
Completing Payment
Please select your preferred payment method for your vehicle down payment (if applicable). Depending on the method you select, you’ll be given instructions on how to complete the process. Payment must be received prior to vehicle delivery.
Accepted payment methods are ACH via Plaid, wire transfer or certified/cashier’s check (CA & IL only). Cash and personal credit cards are not accepted.

Note: For certain delivery addresses, we may use third-party shipping to deliver your Rivian, which will require all payment to be submitted prior to scheduling delivery. Your Guide will let you know if this is necessary.

We currently offer multiple ways for our customers to experience our vehicles in person — including demo drives at our spaces and service centers, or bringing a vehicle to you.

Our delivery team is focused on creating a seamless and convenient experience that guides you from configuration to the first time you drive your Rivian — including service center pickups and home deliveries where available.
Your Rivian Guide will be in touch to help you prepare for delivery based on your configuration, location and when you placed your preorder or reservation. At that time, you can complete any remaining steps to take delivery from your Rivian Account including finalizing your payment method and applying for financing, trading in your current vehicle and completing any remaining documents. When it’s time to make your final payment, you’ll be able to do so directly in your Rivian app.
On delivery day you can track your vehicle’s journey through the Rivian app and upon arrival set it up as a digital key so you can immediately get on the road. To get better acquainted with your vehicle, you can ask a Rivian Field Specialist for a walkthrough or explore on your own time through a guided digital orientation.
A trade-in is used as a credit towards your new Rivian. You can obtain a trade-in estimate anytime before ordering or during the digital purchasing experience.
We accept most makes and models of vehicles, though some may require manual review. Rivian can accept only one trade-in vehicle per customer.
These decisions are determined by a combination of user-supplied information, market value and vehicle history. Rivian will collect your trade-in vehicle on delivery day.
