Backup Lamps
Rivian has decided that certain model year 2022-2023 R1S vehicles fail to conform with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
What is the problem?
The affected vehicles were built with backup lamps that do not comply with regulatory visibility requirements. When the vehicle is in reverse, the back-up lamps will illuminate. However, the optical center may not be visible from the specified planes. This noncompliance may affect visibility and potentially increase the risk of a crash.
What will Rivian do?
Rivian is working as quickly as possible to prepare the remedy plan to address the backup lamps that do not meet regulatory visibility requirements. We will contact impacted owners once repairs can begin.
What should you do?
You will be notified when the remedy becomes available. At that time, you will be able to schedule this repair with your Rivian Service Center.
