With the debut of the Second Generation R1S and R1T, Rivian will once again be racing in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 23 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The U.S.A.’s second oldest auto race features 156 turns and a 4,720-foot climb to the mountain’s summit. Rivian will be the only competitor racing a production EV truck at this year’s event.
Gardner Nichols, senior performance test engineer at Rivian, will race the new Quad-Motor R1T — powered by Rivian’s newest in-house motors — into the thin mountain air on the legendary 12.42-mile road.

The new Quad-Motor is powered by a new motor that is Rivian designed, engineered and manufactured fully in-house. The re-engineered powertrain delivers 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 lb-ft of torque that propels R1T 0–60 mph in less than 2.5 seconds, and a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph.

Our teams have been testing the new Quad-Motor R1T all over the world, from mountain roads to off-road trails — and even at drag strips — to extract the maximum performance in all scenarios. The partnership between hardware and software teams working closely together during development, coupled with the ability to get better over time through over-the-air software updates, is what makes R1T stand out among the competition.

Actual vehicle capability will depend on selected options and trim. Torque, horsepower and acceleration timing estimates vary based on battery, tire, drive modes, vehicle load and weather. Quarter mile and 0-60 mph timing are based on a configuration with 22” road wheels and tires and requires use of Launch mode. Launch mode should not be used on public roads.
