Measuring our Impact: R1 Tri-Motor and Quad-Motor

The addition of the R1 Tri-Motor and Quad-Motor to the Rivian family push the boundaries of power, range, and performance. But we didn’t leave sustainability behind—our entire lineup continues to become more efficient than their predecessors.

We’re committed to launching a vehicle with half the life cycle carbon footprint of our 2022 R1 products by 2030. Our most recent reports, which cover all vehicles in the current R1 lineup, show a nearly 25% reduction in carbon footprint compared to our 2022 R1T and R1S Launch Edition vehicles.

Even our highest-performing variants, capable of blistering acceleration and sports-car-like handling, boast reductions of over 10%, demonstrating that sustainability improvements don't have to come at the cost of design or performance. The latest R1 Tri- and Quad-Motor vehicles have a lower carbon footprint (up to 16%) while offering more than 50 miles of EPA range and up to 190 more horsepower than the 2022 R1 line.

How did we achieve this?

Improved designs

Increased sheet metal material utilization and recycled content
New and improved motors designed, engineered and manufactured fully in-house
Increases in HVAC energy efficiency
Lower energy loads from low-voltage electronics

Renewable energy projects

Generation of nearly 10 million kWh of on-site renewable energy at our Normal, Illinois plant. Learn more here.
Matching 10,000 miles of driving with 100% renewable energy. Learn more here.

Efficient production

Increased throughput of our production, which lowers energy overhead per vehicle
Improved efficiency in our logistics network
