Why is the powered tonneau cover removed from production for R1T?

We recently shared with R1T owners that we’re upgrading the powered tonneau cover. As we go through the process, we are removing the powered tonneau cover from production. We plan to re-introduce this feature later, but a date has not been set. For the foreseeable future, all R1Ts will be built with either a manual tonneau cover or no tonneau cover.

Launch Edition R1Ts

Now that we've removed the powered tonneau cover as an option from configurator, you'll be able to select between the manual tonneau cover and no tonneau cover. As a Launch Edition preorder holder, you will see a price adjustment based on your updated tonneau selection. Choosing the manual tonneau cover will reduce your vehicle price by $700 USD ($890 CAD). Choosing no tonneau cover will reduce it by $1,500 USD ($1,910 CAD).

Though editing your configuration will update your delivery window estimate to "processing estimate", changing between manual tonneau cover and no tonneau cover will not negatively impact your delivery timing.

Adventure Package R1Ts

Though we've removed the powered tonneau cover as an option from configurator, you can still select between the manual tonneau cover and no tonneau cover. You'll see a price adjustment based on your new tonneau selection.

For preorder holders with deposit dates on March 1, 2022 and before, choosing the manual tonneau cover will reduce your vehicle price by $700 USD ($890 CAD). Choosing no tonneau cover will reduce it by $1,500 USD ($1,910 CAD).
For preorder holders with deposit dates between March 1, 2022 and May 25, 2022, choosing the manual tonneau cover will reduce your vehicle price by $1,200 USD ($1,600 CAD). Choosing no tonneau cover will reduce it by $3,000 USD ($3,900 CAD).

Selecting between manual tonneau and no tonneau cover

Our manual tonneau cover is comprised of four interlocking panels constructed of a durable aluminum and composite that slide in and out of the bed’s integrated siderails. When not in use, the panels store in a cargo bag and fit easily in the Gear Tunnel. The manual tonneau cover is fully lockable and offers protection against light weather. If you’re taking delivery soon, your panels will ship later. Our current estimate for the panels is summer 2023. Photos and a full demonstration of the manual tonneau cover will be shared before then.
