To date, R1S is the only vehicle in the large SUV category built by an American automotive company to receive the 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation (as of March 2026). R1S previously earned TOP SAFETY PICK+ in 2023 and again in 2025. The Rivian R1T pickup retains its 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK designation for 2026.

IIHS continually enhances its testing criteria, encouraging automakers to stay at the forefront of the latest technologies. This year, IIHS has further strengthened requirements for occupants in the rear seats, as well as for pedestrian safety. With its world-class design, engineering, and software teams, Rivian is dedicated to developing products that help ensure the safety of individuals both inside and outside the vehicle.
