Rivian Named Technology Disruptor of the Year

At Rivian, we’ve never believed the future of transportation would be built by following the traditional automotive playbook. Real innovation comes from rethinking the system from the ground up.

We’re honored to share that Rivian has been named Technology Disruptor of the YearOpens in new tab in Newsweek’s 2026 World’s Greatest Auto Disruptors Awards, recognized for the Rivian Autonomy Processor (RAP1), our proprietary, purpose-built silicon. This award follows Rivian Founder and CEO, RJ Scaringe being named Newsweek’s Executive Disruptor of the Year in 2025.

Building our own silicon is a significant step forward for Rivian. It allows us to design hardware and software together from the start, creating a more efficient and capable technology platform built specifically for our vehicles and the experiences they enable. The introduction of RAP1 marks a monumental leap forward in compute power — accelerating our self-driving capabilities and delivering next-generation autonomy.

“This recognition is a testament to the work of hundreds of people across Rivian who took on an incredibly ambitious challenge and built something entirely new together. RAP1 started as a small, focused effort and grew into a foundational part of how we’re thinking about the future of our vehicles, our technology, and the customer experience.”

— Vidya Rajagopalan, SVP of Electrical Hardware

RAP1 will power Rivian’s Gen 3 Autonomy Computer and marks the beginning of a broader roadmap for intelligent, software- and AI-defined vehicles.

This recognition reflects the curiosity, collaboration, and determination of teams across Rivian who continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. We’re grateful to Newsweek for the honor and even more excited for the road ahead.
