Rivian Green x Pantone

Design and engineering grounded in color

Rivian Green x Pantone

Recently, we took a special step in our design journey by partnering with Pantone® to develop our new signature color: Rivian Green.

Design has always been multi-sensory for Rivian. You find it in the unmistakable silhouette of our vehicles, the tactile warmth of our interior wood accents, and the reinterpreted nature sounds layered into our vehicles’ alerts and cues. Yet, our most immediate expression is color—a core pillar of our identity that serves as an emotional bridge between our vision and the natural world.

We want to design colors that make people feel grounded, that evoke a calmness and invite people to our brand.

Born from the Process

The story of Rivian Green didn't start in a sketchbook, but on the factory floor. During the early development of R1, as we explored our color lineup, our team became infatuated with the vehicles that had been dipped in E-coat—the electrified, protective primer dip every chassis receives before its final color is applied.

This raw, mechanical green held a unique tension between engineering and nature. Depending on the light, it shifted elegantly from deep forest tones to a technical gray. It felt design-forward, quietly bold, and deeply human. What began as a manufacturing necessity evolved into what became Launch Green, our debut color and handshake with the world. It also became the starting point for how we show up in our spaces, events, partnerships and everywhere else.

A New Precision

Evolving and standardizing this nuanced color with Pantone, the global authority on color, marks a significant step as Rivian prepares to reach even more people with the addition of R2. Rivian Green is complex and dynamic. It contains blue undertones that allow it to feel both modern and familiar. Historically, such depth has been difficult to replicate accurately across different mediums.

By officially defining and standardizing this color with Pantone, we achieve a new level of precision. Whether the color appears on a vehicle’s fabric, the walls of our retail spaces, across digital experiences or within a printed graphic, it now maintains a consistent soul. This standardization allows our community to recognize the Rivian spirit anywhere in the world, ensuring that our visual language remains as intentional as our vehicle design and engineering.

“Working with Pantone makes it much easier for us to work with other suppliers or different mediums and ensure that the way our green shows up in print is the way that it shows up in materials or a textile, or anything else.” Liz Guerrero, Sr. Director, Brand Experience

Designing for a Shared Future

Rivian Green serves as the foundational neutral of our palette—a starting point for exploring expressive new stories. This collaboration is more than a design milestone. It is our synonym for sustainability. A reflection of our community-wide invitation to get outside, go new places and keep the world adventurous for generations to come.
