We invited some of our earliest Rivian owners to be the first to experience the new Gen 2 Quad.
We love sharing these adventures and learning directly from our community. A few Rivian engineers joined, too, for demos and deep-dives into every feature that makes Quad the most Rivian Rivian we make.
Pre-production models shown. Final design, equipment and accessories may differ.
With a 2.5-second 0-to-60mph and a 10.5-second quarter mile, it’s the quickest. And with four independent, oil-cooled motors putting down 1,198 lb-ft of torque, it’s the most capable off-road. The Max pack (now available for Quad) also gives an EPA-estimated 370 miles of range—and Rivian-estimated 400+ miles in conserve mode—to power just about any adventure.1
Quad is mind-bending performance meets world-beating capability. If you’re into that kind of thing (and we know you are), you might want to give it a go yourself.
Here’s what our community had to say, in their own words.
Mandy took delivery of her Rivian Blue Quad-Motor R1T on her birthday in June 2022. Her biggest Rivian adventure to date was when she competed with her Rivian in the Rebelle Rally—the first personally owned, fully electric EV to ever do so.
What was it like to be in the desert outside St. George, Utah, with other Rivian owners and the Rivian team to demo-drive the new Quad-Motor?
Mandy: It was so much fun to get to know the group. We all came from different backgrounds and used our Rivian vehicles for different things, so it was so cool to hear their stories and to see how Rivian has enhanced their lives.
We all meshed well and quickly became friends, so that made sharing that experience with them in the new Quad so much more memorable. I’ll never forget the giggles and screams, especially during the launch ride!
Jimmie was one of the first owners to take delivery of his Gen 1 Quad R1S.
Jimmie: I wear my early VIN number as a badge of honor
As lead of the Utah Rivian Club, he regularly takes advantage of exploring remote areas of central and Southern Utah, as well as visiting multiple national parks with his wife and two sons.
What was your favorite Quad-Motor feature to see or experience?
Jimmie: My absolute favorite moment was when we were introduced to Launch Mode. Six of us piled into an R1S and sat back, bracing for the impending G-forces, expecting a few seconds of exhilaration. When we floored it, the exhilaration definitely hit—but it didn’t stop after a few seconds.
Another favorite moment was having the opportunity to drive a Quad to Toquerville Falls. As a native Utahn, I have had the opportunity to drive the trail multiple times in different vehicles, and it was hard to believe how easily the new Quad handled all the obstacles.
Launch Mode is designed for use on a closed circuit track in dry road conditions. Do not use Launch Mode on public roadways where traffic or pedestrians are present. It is the driver’s responsibility to drive safely and pay attention to the road.
Since taking delivery of her R1T in 2022, Karen said she felt something awaken inside her.
Karen: It goes beyond hunger for adventure. It’s turned into a passion to spread my wings in ways I never felt confident to explore before now. From growing my off-road skills and tearing up sand dunes to using my truck to power exciting new hobbies and pursuits. I’ve loved exploring this side of me.
What was this experience like for you, as someone who has owned a first-generation Quad-Motor vehicle for a few years?
Karen: Leading up to the event I was confident it would be amazing, but what surprised me was how powerful this time was in fostering truly insightful and deep connections with the vehicles and the team. The experience was invaluable in communicating the true heart and fuel of Rivian and the new second-generation Quad-Motor. It beautifully highlighted what made this different from the Quad at home in my driveway.
Just last week I was off-roading on some dense rocky trails, and my first-generation Quad did the same it’s always done. But this was different. I had changed. I had tasted more. More than two months later, I could still feel the difference in torque control and suspension response. The off-road time behind the wheel of that second-generation Quad continued to speak volumes, far more than any demo on pavement could ever communicate.
Alyssa doesn’t own a Rivian—she came as a guest of Karen’s—but said experiencing a Rivian for the first time through this adventure made the moment even more impactful.
Alyssa: I'd love the chance to keep that momentum going and continue adventuring in Rivian vehicles.
What was your favorite moment during the shoot?
Alyssa: Aside from the incredible group of humans I had the chance to spend a few days with (every one of them was amazing!), my favorite moment was definitely testing how well I could fit into all the storage compartments of the R1T - the gear tunnel, the bed, and even the frunk.
It was such a fun, hands-on way to engage with the vehicle’s design and really get a sense of its thoughtful engineering. While videos and social posts do a good job of highlighting the R1T’s functionality, there’s something completely different about experiencing it for yourself.
That kind of playful experimentation brought the vehicle to life in a whole new way and made it clear just how much it can do, on and off road.
Acceleration timing estimates vary based on battery, tire, drive modes, vehicle load and weather. Timing for 0-60 mph is based on configuration with 22” Super Sport wheels and requires use of Launch mode. Launch mode should not be used on public roads. Actual vehicle capability will depend on selected options and trim. Torque and horsepower estimates vary based on battery, tire, drive modes, vehicle load and weather. Official EPA values are noted — some range estimates are preliminary estimates based on the EPA test cycle and are not official EPA values. The EPA estimates range through a series of standardized lab tests that mimic real world conditions. Factors including tires, drive modes, weather conditions, HVAC settings and accessories can all have an impact on range. All range estimates are based on a configuration with 21” road wheels and tires.
