How can I buy or sell a Rivian through a private party transaction?
Seller
To complete the transfer of ownership of a secondhand Rivian, please contact the Customer Engagement Center with the following info:
17-digit VIN number
Rivian PIN number
Name of the buyer (optional)
While we complete the digital ownership transfer of the vehicle, it's possible some information associated with you will be visible to the buyer in the vehicle. You should complete the following before releasing your vehicle.
When selling your Rivian to a third party, there will be a period of data overlap while the supporting sales documentation is gathered and processed. To minimize the data visible to the buyer, we recommend you take the following steps to prepare your vehicle for sale.
Use the "Clear Settings" function in the vehicle center screen in the "Settings" menu to automatically complete the following in one step:
Log out of Alexa
Log out of Spotify
Log out of Tidal
TuneIn favorites and account
Erase navigation and search history
Remove favorited locations in vehicle Navigation
Erase FM station favorites
Audio and equalizer settings
Disconnect Bluetooth devices
Remove garage door pairing
Forget Wi-Fi Networks and passwords
Delete Gear Guard Videos
Language and units if they vary from default setting
Driver seat, steering wheel, mirror and easy entry memory settings
Notes:
This feature does not remove any driver profiles nor phones set up as keys from the vehicle. This process needs to be completed by contacting the Customer Engagement Center. The new owner will not be able to invite their own drivers to the vehicle nor assign keys until this process is complete.
Clear Settings doesn't delete any information stored on the Rivian cloud. This includes data you've registered with your Rivian ID, such as an email address or vehicle charging accounts.
The Clear Settings function cannot be undone.
Unpair your phone as key
Open the Rivian app on your phone
Pull up the menu and select Drivers and keys
Select the driver you want to interact with
Select phone
Click Delete key to unpair the phone as a key
Forget Wi-Fi Networks
Go to Settings
Select Connect
Select Wi-Fi
Select Manage Networks
Select the red trash icon next to the Wi-Fi network you'd like to forget
Select Remove

While we complete the digital ownership transfer of the vehicle, it's possible some information associated with the vehicle will be visible to the seller. You may temporarily disable the sharing of the vehicle’s location to the Rivian App (so that the seller cannot view the vehicle’s location) by toggling the setting on the “Data and Privacy” screen of the vehicle’s Settings menu. Once the ownership transfer process is completed and confirmed by Rivian, the seller’s access to the vehicle through the Rivian App will be removed, and you may re-enable the sharing of the vehicle’s location to the Rivian App.
Timing
We'll use the information provided to transfer the vehicle to the Rivian Account of the buyer. Once all requested documents have been received, the ownership transfer process may take up to 7 business days to complete. To minimize this overlap period, please submit all requested documentation as soon as possible.
