How can I buy or sell a Rivian through a private party transaction?
Seller
To ensure a smooth ownership transfer process, please take the following steps to when selling your vehicle:
Use the ‘Clear Settings’ function on your vehicle’s touchscreen to remove personal information and preferences from your vehicle
Settings > Vehicle > Service > Clear Settings
Remove vehicle ownership from the Rivian app
Profile > Manage account > Vehicle ownership
Note: Once completed, these processes cannot be undone. Clear Settings doesn't delete any information stored on the Rivian cloud.
Buyer
To transfer ownership of a Rivian vehicle to your Rivian account (create a Rivian account here), please contact the Customer Engagement Center with a photo of your driver’s license and one of the following Proof of Ownership documents:
Signed bill of sale
Signed Title
Registration card
Receipts or title applications are not accepted as a valid Proof of Ownership documents.
Note: If the seller has not removed their ownership from the vehicle in the Rivian app, you may temporarily disable app access to vehicle location data on your vehicle's touchscreen (so that the seller cannot view the vehicle’s location). Rivian will revoke the seller’s access to the vehicle when the ownership transfer is complete, at which time you can restore location access.
Settings > Data and Privacy > Rivian Mobile App
Timing
We'll use the information provided to transfer the vehicle to the Rivian Account of the buyer. Once all requested documents have been received, the ownership transfer process may take up to 7 business days to complete. To minimize this overlap period, please submit all requested documentation as soon as possible.
