Rivian’s latest software update brings you a new way to save on home charging costs with Smart Charging Schedule Recommendation.
Our autonomy system is also gaining several updates that improve ride comfort, lane centering, and the expansion of hands-free capabilities on the highway.
Smart Charging Schedule Recommendation
Most EV owners charge their vehicles at home, but over 70% of those charging sessions don't happen when electricity is cheapest during "off-peak" hours. To help you save on home charging costs, we're rolling out a smarter way to charge Gen 1 and 2 vehicles. Schedule Recommendation allows your Rivian to help automatically charge during off-peak times in your area, while still making sure it's ready to go when you need it. By shifting when you charge, you could cut your annual charging costs by up to 20% or more depending on where you live, with some owners potentially saving up to $900 a year.
Charging during off-peak hours has a ripple effect helping prevent outages and supporting a more secure energy grid. You can also increase the amount of clean energy you use by over 10%, depending on your location.
To get started, confirm your home location and utility provider in the Rivian app to integrate with local electricity use data. This feature is designed to work with a growing number of providers, and your vehicle will automatically optimize its charging times to coincide with the lowest electricity rates, helping you're always charging efficiently and affordably.
Co-Steer and Enhanced Highway Assist improvements
Now, Gen 2 drivers can adjust their lane position while Highway Assist is active without the system disengaging. Co-Steer enables you to move your vehicle into a position within the lane that’s more comfortable for you in situations like driving beside barriers or passing a semi-truck.
Additionally, we increased the availability of Enhanced Highway Assist by over 50%, enabling longer uninterrupted stretches of hands-free driving. Rivian’s in-house perception system, which uses AI to fuse multi-modal sensor data to understand the 360-degree environment around the vehicle, has an updated model that improves lane centering, especially as your vehicle navigates highways with tight curves.
Richer sound in Gen 2 and custom settings for all
The soundtrack to your drive is personal. That’s why we created the ability for each driver to customize the six pre-existing equalizer profiles in settings, and have added two additional slots that you can rename. Once you find your ideal settings, they’ll be ready and waiting for you every time you get behind the wheel.
With software we also updated the low-frequency response and sound stage in Gen 2 vehicles, resulting in a more controlled bass and richer sense of spatial separation, making it easier to pinpoint different elements in a track. You may notice this the most in dynamic, lively songs with lots of instruments or voices.
Software-defined details
Ultimately, this update is made possible by Rivian’s software-defined architecture. We’re able to build features that deliver more value to you over time and are rooted in the feedback that we hear along the way. Every adventure in a Rivian starts with you, and this belief is core to how we design and build new features.
