New Software: Bringing RivianOS 2 to the R1 Lineup
One unified software platform powering our AI-defined vehicle lineup.
Software
With the 2026.31 software update, R1 gets the biggest software transformation in its history. We've rebuilt the entire R1 experience on RivianOS 2 — an AI-defined platform designed from the ground up — bringing state-of-the-art graphics, a redesigned interface layout, and deep compute integration directly to the cabin. It reaches every R1 on the road, across both Gen 1 and Gen 2 architectures. The R1 user experience is faster, more intuitive, and remains unmistakably Rivian.
RivianOS 2 now powers the entire Rivian lineup with R1 and R2 on one unified software stack. That means every improvement lands everywhere: continuous feature updates, shared UI enhancements and new capabilities tailored to each vehicle’s hardware setup.
One Platform, Even More Possibilities
Converging R1 onto RivianOS 2 establishes a shared software design language across our entire vehicle line, bringing a modernized, highly intuitive in-cabin experience to all R1 models:
Re-imagined UI & Dynamic Controls: Essential controls adapt dynamically to your drive. Quick controls and the media player can now be placed on either side of the display, while a new vertical status bar keeps key vehicle functions within easy reach. Additionally, Settings 2 was rebuilt from the ground up, introducing context-aware controls and universal search, making on-the-go adjustments faster.
Next-Gen Graphics Engine: R2 and Gen 2 R1 vehicles leverage Unreal Engine 5 to deliver real-time 3D visualizations of your vehicle and surroundings directly on the central infotainment display. Gen 1 R1 vehicles retain Unreal Engine 4 to preserve screen responsiveness on display hardware.
New Real-Time Route Alerts: Information from Google Maps about police presence and speed cameras is now integrated directly into your in-vehicle navigation. Incident and alert data is based on information from local authorities, trusted third-party sources, as well as real-time contributions from the Google Maps and Waze communities, and helps you stay informed on the road.
Dedicated Weather App (Connect+ subscribers): Connect+ subscribers¹ can view real-time conditions, air quality metrics, and a 10-day forecast on your center display or route in Navigation.
Mobile Live Trips (Connect+ subscribers): Connect+ subscribers¹ can now start, view, and update active trips in your vehicle directly from the Rivian mobile app, adding versatility for daily driving or bigger adventures.
Powered by Rivian Unified Intelligence
Unifying our software platform allows R1 vehicles to fully tap into Rivian Unified Intelligence, providing a common AI foundation that connects select vehicle, mobile, and service experiences.
Hybrid Edge Compute & Local AI Processing: R2 and Gen 2 R1 models have more computing power, enabling advanced, low-latency processing.
Core Smart Features: Both Gen 1 and Gen 2 R1 models receive expanded cloud-assisted voice capabilities and refreshed driver display hierarchies.
Intelligence On Your Terms
As our software platform evolves, your control over your data remains paramount. RivianOS 2 allows you to toggle hotword wake-words, limit location sharing, or adjust driver profile data at any time, across all vehicle generations.
The 2026.31 OTA update is beginning its rollout to eligible R1 and R2 vehicles. For full release notes and update availability for your specific vehicle, check the Rivian App or your center display.
