Sometimes the most memorable part of the road trip is the detour. It happens when you see a trailhead or catch a glimpse of the coast and decide, on a whim, to see where it leads.
Our latest look at R2 focuses on that exact moment: the transition from the smooth rhythm of the winding coastal roads to the adventurous grit of the dirt trail. Like all Rivians, it is made to get to fun places.
Engineered for the Detour
What makes R2 feel so “at home” when the pavement ends comes down to an architecture designed to bridge the gap between rugged capability and nimble responsiveness. If you’ve been in a Rivian before, there’s a lot of familiar stuff happening, but here is a breakdown of what makes R2 unique:
Quick Packing 656 horsepower, R2 Performance goes 0–60 in as quick as 3.6 seconds1.
Nimble Coming in at nearly 2,000 pounds lighter than R1S, and featuring a shorter wheelbase, R2 is incredibly agile and responsive.
Planted A semi-active suspension (unique to Performance trim) and a low center of gravity, enabled by its structural battery pack, give it a sporty, planted feel.
Adaptable It features a variety of drive modes specifically tuned for R2’s lighter weight and packaging, including All-Purpose, Sport, Conserve, Snow and off-road modes such as All-Terrain, Rally and Soft Sand.
Trail Ready R2 boasts 9.6 inches of ground clearance, a 25° approach angle, and a 26° departure angle.
See It in Action
We took R2 out to push those boundaries and capture what it truly feels like behind the wheel. It’s a drive designed to embrace the detour and all the adventure that comes with it.
Whether it’s a planned road trip or a spontaneous right turn into the unknown, R2 is ready to take the long way home.
The first customer-ready R2s officially rolled off the production line. Reserve yours and get updates on upcoming events and more, including demo drives in your area, as we get closer to bringing R2 to the road.
Actual vehicle capability will depend on selected options and trim. Acceleration timing estimates vary based on battery, tire, drive modes, vehicle load and weather. Timing for 0–60 mph is based on R2 Performance configuration with 21″ road wheels and tires.
