With the publication of these reports, we are demonstrating that pursuing efficient manufacturing, renewable energy, responsible sourcing, and deep community engagement can produce measurable, meaningful outcomes that support our mission to Keep the World Adventurous Forever.
Over the course of 2025 and early 2026, we have made significant progress in several areas.
The Highlights
R2 met carbon targets 4 years early The new R2 achieves a 50% reduction in its lifecycle carbon footprint compared to our R1S Launch Edition, fulfilling our 2030 goal four years ahead of schedule. By offering a more accessible price point and consisting of 25% of recycled and bio-based materials by mass, R2 brings our thoughtful approach and incredible performance to a significantly broader audience. How? Driven by optimized aerodynamics, lighter mass, propulsion efficiency, and thoughtfully-sourced durable materials, R2 is changing the game. The interior textiles utilize Nordic paper-industry waste, floor mats are made from 99% ocean waste, the frunk and trim are 85% post-consumer recycled material, resin cell trays are 100% recycled, and even more features contribute to R2 being our most groundbreaking vehicle yet.
Driving industry change The R2 Circularity, Energy, & Carbon Footprint report is the first life cycle assessment (LCA) publication in the industry to adopt the new SAE J3341* disclosure standard for carbon footprint reporting.
Software-driven grid decarbonization As announced previously, we match the first 10,000 miles of every delivered Rivian with 100% renewable energy, empowering our customers with a way to directly help build a more reliable, cleaner, and affordable energy grid. Starting in 2025, we went a step further and released an integrated smart-charging software that automatically aligns home charging with low-cost, off-peak cleaner power.
Supply chain accountability We are enforcing environmental and labor standards through our Supplier Integrity Program, requiring all prospective Tier 1 direct suppliers to complete human rights and environmental screenings.
Scaling domestic production We are driving American industrial competitiveness through a 1.1 million-square-foot expansion of our Normal, Illinois plant and the ongoing construction of our nearly 2,000 acre site in Stanton Springs North, Georgia.
Workforce investment To bridge the national skills gap in advanced manufacturing, Rivian expanded its educational network to 45 college and trade school partnerships in 2025. Programs like the Electric Vehicle-Energy Storage Manufacturing Training Academy ensure we are building a durable, skilled workforce capable of pacing with our rapid growth.
