R2 is designed to move through your day-to-day life with effortless agility, yet it’s always ready to leave the pavement behind. It balances a city-friendly footprint with rugged off-road capability. It’s got space for your crew, your gear, and a few clever surprises you won’t find anywhere else.
With impressive range, a refined interior, and adaptable Drive Modes, R2 is a distillation of everything we’ve learned from R1, built into a more compact package. And like every Rivian, it’s a software-defined vehicle that will only get better over time.
How big is it?
R2 is designed to be nimble without sacrificing the "big" feeling of a true SUV. Because our new mid-size platform allows us to optimize packaging of the motors and battery, more of the vehicle’s footprint is dedicated to what actually matters: people and space.
At 185.6 inches long and 78.1 inches wide (with mirrors folded), R2 is about 15 inches shorter than R1S. Making it easier to maneuver through parking garages, narrow city streets, and tight switchbacks on the trail, all while maintaining the commanding view of the road you expect from a Rivian.
What it feels like inside
Open the door and R2 shifts perspective.
The space is immediate. Not oversized or excessive, but open, balanced and intentional.
Designed for your crew, R2 provides generous legroom for five adults with 40.4 inches of rear legroom and 40.9 inches of rear headroom. Because of R2’s two box silhouette, all passengers have an open and airy feel, with ample headroom for all, even the ones over 6 feet tall. The proportions are designed to feel natural with seating that allows you to settle in with maximum comfort.
R2 maximizes its space for all, and the story is no different in the second row.
Each outboard seat in the second row features ISOFIX/LATCH anchorages for child seats, and the flat floor ensures that the middle passenger stays comfortable even on long road trips. With multiple USB-C ports distributed throughout the cabin, everyone’s devices stay charged and ready for the next destination.
Making the most of every inch
R2 is a champion of clever storage. It starts at the front with a class-leading front trunk offering 5.2 cu-ft of space that’s large enough to store a carry-on suitcase and large backpack or even your full set of golf clubs.
In the cabin, the doors feature large storage pockets (and space for your large water bottle), while the center console is designed to be spacious and versatile.
In addition, the dual glove boxes provide maximum organization for the things you need daily that can be hidden from plain sight
With 90.1 cu-ft of total storage, from the front trunk to rear cargo, you can effortlessly pack up to five suitcases, three backpacks, a stroller and more.

How it moves
R2 combines our iconic design language with streamlined aerodynamics to deliver exceptional performance. Built on a new mid-size platform with available all-wheel drive, it feels stable, connected and predictable in a way that makes driving it feel natural from the start.
On the road, it’s composed and responsive. R2 is equally comfortable navigating tight city turns or opening up on a longer drive. Off-road, it brings the capability you expect, with control and traction to go further when the pavement ends. R2 leads its class with 9.6 inches of ground clearance, paired with a 25° approach and 26° departure angle. It is built to clear the obstacles that stop other mid-size SUVs in their tracks and gives you the confidence to keep going.
The Performance trim will go from 0–60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds and offer an EPA estimated range of up to 330 miles1.
It’s quick when you want it to be, composed when it matters and capable enough for adventures off the beaten path.
Designed with intention
Every part of R2 is shaped by how it will be used.
From its packaging to its materials, the focus is on thoughtful utility — simplifying where it makes sense and adding functionality where it counts. Inside, materials are durable, easy to clean and thoughtfully selected, from flat-woven flooring to finishes designed to handle sand, dirt and daily wear without added complexity.
The focal point is our intuitive center display, which serves as the command center for everything from navigation to climate.
New to the R2 are the Haptic Halo Wheels on the steering wheel that feature dynamic feedback, making it easier than ever to control vehicle functions without taking your eyes off the road. And for those who need to bring everything along, the R2 features dual gloveboxes, a first for Rivian, providing ample storage for all your essentials.
Bring the outside in
R2 is built to feel open to the world around you. The rear glass drops fully into the liftgate, creating an open-air experience that allows you to carry long gear, like surfboards or lumber, with ease. It creates a more open experience for everyone on board, including the four-legged passengers who tend to appreciate it the most.
On Performance and Premium trims, our "Quick Drop" button lowers all the windows at once with a single touch — an intuitive detail that makes it easier to let fresh air in.
Charging
The R2 lineup has a native NACS charge port with access to over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers in addition to the Rivian Adventure Network. Go from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes with a DC fast charger2. When you're at home, the Rivian Wall Charger provides a seamless overnight "top-off," so you can wake up every morning with a full tank of adventure.
