So when developing R2, we set out to create a cabin where thoughtful utility and intuitive technology are balanced with the familiarity of a warm, inviting room. The result is a vehicle that acts as both a modern retreat and a place to connect more deeply with the world outside.
We really want to strike that balance between technology and the physical capabilities of the vehicle, whether that’s on-road capability, off-road capability, storage, and the user experience, all built together to create an amazing adventure vehicle.
A new dimension of openness
Openness isn’t just about the exterior, it’s about how the vehicle feels from the inside. While R2 is smaller than R1S, its interior design creates a sense of space and ease. By angling the side glass outward and positioning the beltline lower, we’ve created a cabin that feels remarkably expansive. These intentional design cues also aid outward visibility—knowing where the corners of the vehicle are while navigating tight terrain and obstacles. A large UV-protected panoramic glass roof brings in natural light, allowing you to feel closer to the world around you. The fully retractable rear drop glass creates an open-air environment that invites adventure: sunrise surf sessions, hauling a second-hand furniture find, or even loading up for a home improvement project. R2 provides generous legroom for five adults with 40.4 inches of rear legroom and 40.9 inches of rear headroom, so even taller passengers can relax comfortably and enjoy the journey. In R2, there’s truly no bad seat.
Purposeful utility
R2 was designed to be a companion for weekend trails, weekday errands and all the moments in between, making smart storage and flexibility paramount.
As one of the most packaging efficient vehicles available today,* R2 maximizes every inch of interior space. It has 90.1 cubic feet of total enclosed storage, with creative solutions tucked into every corner: door pockets easily accommodate oversized bottles, while dual, soft-lined glove boxes provide a protected space for your essentials. The versatile center console features a roomy drawer, integrated cup holders, and a magnetic charging pad.
Each interior element is intentional and serves a distinct purpose. Even the upcycled birch wood panel, reminiscent of mid-century modern furniture, structurally supports the infotainment screen and driver display.
Premium materials, responsibly sourced
Nature is the core inspiration for R2. It not only anchors our palettes and material choices, but also ensures that our impact on the environment is as considered as the vehicle itself.
R2 incorporates responsible materials without compromising on quality or design. Our second-generation Adventex material—featured on the seats, door inserts, and instrument panel—has a minimum of 45% sustainable content. Available in Black Crater, Black Crater Signature** and Coastal Cloud Signature** R2's interior materials are durable and easy-to-clean so that you don’t have to stress about getting your Rivian dirty. Flat-woven flooring easily handle sand, dirt, and pet hair.
Non-glossy black surfaces reduce smudging and simplify upkeep, ensuring R2 stays adventure-ready at all times.
