June 9 marks an important milestone at Rivian and for excited adventurers across the US. Deliveries, order invitations and demo drives for R2 have begun.

We started deliveries with our R2 Performance with Launch Package because we wanted early owners to experience the absolute peak of this new platform. R2 delivers Rivian’s most advanced technology yet at a more accessible price point, with our innovative architecture, purpose-built hardware, powerful compute platform, and Rivian OS 2.0: a fresh, intuitive UI design language. We reduced complexity and costs in hardware while maximizing the features and performance of software.
R2 marks an evolution in software-defined vehicles, built to evolve, pairing an AI-ready architecture with 5G connectivity, the most powerful infotainment compute in a consumer vehicle in North America, and tactile haptic controls. Its multi-modal perception stack with 11 HDR cameras totaling 65MP and a five-radar system sets a new bar for sensory fidelity. This foundation powers an expanding suite of driver assistance and active safety features designed for a drive that feels as advanced as it operates, and a vehicle that gets smarter with every over-the-air update.
Customers who purchase the R2 Launch Package will have access to our Autonomy+ package included, and will see new features roll out to their vehicles over time including an update to Universal Hands-Free that stops for red lights and stop signs.

R2 delivers the space and flexibility you’d expect from a much larger SUV, maximizing every inch to deliver best-in-class interior volume. A masterclass in packaging, the rear cargo area can fit two XL suitcases, a stroller, backpacks, plus additional underfloor storage. And there’s plenty of space for five adults to sit comfortably with a spacious 40.4 inches of second-row legroom.
The unique rear drop glass offers an invitation to immerse yourself in the world around you. With the press of a single button, Quick Drop lowers all four passenger windows and the rear drop glass simultaneously to create an open-air experience.
Built to Last. Responsibly.
Rivian vehicles are built for every adventure, and that means using materials that are not only durable and highly functional but also responsibly sourced. A quarter of R2’s total vehicle mass, amounting to 1,200+ lbs, is made from recycled and/or bio-based materials. We believe durability is one of the most effective paths to sustainability, so we use materials that can withstand real-world use.
As with R1, Rivian will match the first 10,000 miles of driving with 100% renewable energy (generated from projects like this community solar site) when customers take delivery of an R2. All Rivians, including R2, get their first charge from renewable wind and solar energy generated on-site at our manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois.
