Today, every Gen 2 R1 and R2 is capable of Universal Hands-Free² and Lane Change on Command³ on roads with a painted line. For these vehicles, hands-free, eyes-on Point-to-Point driving is coming soon, elevating your hands-free experience over time.

Hands-Free is Evolving Over the Air
Autonomy+ is a set of driver assistance features working today, on roads you already drive. With over-the-air updates constantly unlocking new capabilities, the driving experience only improves over time.
Universal Hands-Free is available on 3.5 million miles of road in the US and Canada.² If the lanes are clearly marked, you can drive hands-free. When the visual indicator appears on your driver display, simply double-pull the right stalk to engage.
With Co-Steer, you can smoothly nudge to avoid potholes or give semi-trucks extra room without disengaging Universal Hands-Free, while Drive Styles lets you dial in the character of your drive—from Mild to Spicy. Just like that, your daily commute can stop feeling like something you have to endure.⁵
With our most recent software update Lane Change on Command moved beyond the highway. Lane Change on Command now works on any road where Universal Hands-Free is available.³ With Universal Hands-Free engaged, check that the lane is clear, flip the blinker, and your R2 finds the gap and makes the move.
That’s not all for this month’s updates. Your driver display now renders traffic lights, stop signs, and traffic cones directly in the driver display Autonomy view.
What Comes Next
Point-to-Point assisted driving is the next milestone we're building toward.⁶ Enter an address and supervise while your vehicle follows the route from start to finish, handling city streets, highway interchanges and everything in between. A limited rollout begins later this year, with a widespread customer rollout targeted for 2027.
The path from Universal Hands-Free to Point-to-Point is shorter than it looks from the outside, because so much of the work is already done.
